Auto Accident Checklist:
- If possible, move all involved vehicles safely off the road. Injuries frequently occur after an accident as people mill around on a busy road.
- Call for medical help for the injured people. If someone appears to be injured but says he/she is okay, call for help anyway.
- Call the police and stay put until they arrive.
- Important: Never admit quilt or negligence. Just relay the facts and let the police determine the fault.
- Get information from each driver involved, no matter how minor the accident was.
- Write down details of the accident while they’re fresh in your mind. Describe vehicle directions, speed, whether signals and brake lights were functioning and used, etc.
- Draw a map of the accident scene. Note the location of any stop signs, traffic lights, objects in the road, etc.
- If you are carrying a camera in the vehicle, photograph the accident from all angles and good shots of any damage to each vehicle.
- Remain calm and follow all police instructions.
